Philosophica Hermetica, MS 1, vol. ii, f. 202r
Penflourished initials, two
lines high, were typically used to mark paragraph divisions in this
manuscript. The initial letter here is painted in blue and the
flourishing of the letter is in red, while the penflourished border is
in both colours with trails in the upper and lower margins in
red. Typically red and blue letters alternate, with flourishing
predominantly in the opposite colour. Border motifs of inverted
'J' shapes are characteristic of this flourisher's repertoire.
The flourished vertical in the bottom margin ends incomplete as the
bottom of the margin was cut off, probably at a post-medieval rebinding. |
